Basic Principles of NPT

In this section of the site we outline Normalization Process Theory.

First, we define what we mean by theory.

Second, we describe the basic assumptions of the theory - its core propositions.

Third, we describe the four mechanisms that drive implementation and integration
(coherence; cognitive participation; collective action; and reflexive monitoring).

It is important to remember that this is an outline, and is not a substitute for the detailed accounts of the theory's assumptions, mechanisms and components that are provided in the papers listed in the bibliography.
