Normalization Process Theory is a framework for empirical analysis

Normalization Process Theory has been derived from empirical research about the real world, rather than from abstract speculation. It seeks to define and explain the operation of mechanisms in human behaviour and collective action. NPT drives hypotheses that can be tested using quasi-experimental and survey methods; it can act as an interpretive scheme for systematic reviews, and offers a robust framework for qualitative studies.
